From the reviews

We absolutely love the commanding that's General's Residence and garden at Fort Monroe! We've been there many times for weddings, corporate functions, baby showers over the years. The staff is extra helpful and knowledgeable and accommodating.

★★★★★ — Penny, Jul 2023

We went there last week for a wedding. It is a beautiful location for a garden wedding and intimate reception. We had a wonderful time in a great setting. The rooms are a bit chopped up into small seating areas, but the main front room allows for a good number of dancing guests.

★★★★★ — Shelley, Jun 2022

As the mother of the bride, I could not have been happier with this beautiful venue. It was a small wedding followed by cocktail hour and dinner (with dancing in the foyer!), and all of the spaces were perfect. The bride's room upstairs was an added bonus.

★★★★★ — Sallie, Jul 2026

We got married here in July and did an indoor wedding for about 35 people. It was absolutely beautiful and the coordinator Jenn is incredible to work with.

Getting married at The Commanding General's Residence and Garden

The Commanding General's Residence and Garden comes up for weddings — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the tour worth it. First, see the garden at the time of day and season you'd actually get married — a garden that glows at golden hour in June can look very different at noon in March, so ask what's in bloom for your date and walk the path your guests take from parking to ceremony to reception. Second, bring your real questions: the rain plan (where does the ceremony move, and does it hold everyone?), shade and bugs for a summer afternoon, the catering and bar policy, the music curfew, and exactly what's included — tables, chairs, setup, and teardown are where quotes quietly diverge. Popular garden dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
