We had our wedding reception at Blockhouse August 2021. This was during the COVID pandemic so planning a wedding was difficult all around. I worked with Sara the majority of the time. She is the owner of Blockhouse and Castaway. Sara did an incredible job during an extremely stressful time with hardly no staff.
We rented the Blockhouse for our wedding this October. Paige and Emily were awesome during the planning and the actual wedding day. The space is cozy, lovely, and unique. We toured some other spaces in Portland and what was great about Blockhouse is they are transparent about pricing and set clear expectations.
The Blockhouse and Pomarius Nursery was and is the most amazing wedding venue that we could have dreamt of for our April wedding. With our small and intimate guest list of 40 people, the space felt so personal and intentional. It was so versatile for our ceremony, reception and dance space.
Everyone who cam to our wedding thought this was the most beautiful & unique venue they've ever seen. Blockhouse PDX at the Pomarius Nursery was the perfect setting for our wedding, offering a charming and unique experience that exceeded our expectations.
Getting married at Blockhouse
Blockhouse comes up for weddings, going by their listing and couples’ reviews. Two things make the tour worth it. First, see the garden at the time of day and season you'd actually get married — a garden that glows at golden hour in June can look very different at noon in March, so ask what's in bloom for your date and walk the path your guests take from parking to ceremony to reception. Second, bring your real questions: the rain plan (where does the ceremony move, and does it hold everyone?), shade and bugs for a summer afternoon, the catering and bar policy, the music curfew, and exactly what's included — tables, chairs, setup, and teardown are where quotes quietly diverge. Popular garden dates book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
